Cinco estudiantes de cine están produciendo un documental sobre un zoológico local cuando de repente los animales se vuelven locos: La razón es una bola de luz surcando el cielo y estrellándose en el horizonte. Convencidos de que sólo han sido testigos de un meteorito, los estudiantes siguen la trayectoria para documentar el suceso con su cámara. En un área de bosque descubren un cráter quemado. Ya es demasiado oscuro para filmar y deciden pasar la noche en su furgoneta. A la mañana siguiente, uno de ellos ha desaparecido. Los estudiantes restantes encuentran en primer lugar un rastro de sangre y luego los pedazos arrancados de lo que solía ser su amigo. Pronto se dan cuenta de que algo les está cazando, algo que no es de este mundo.
